For this project I only had sticks that I picked up in forest. Each child took one. The idea was to observe a stick and decide which animal to make out of it. Stick had to be a part of the animal, apart from that children could do as they pleased. When they decided which animal they would like to make they made a little sketch first and then they started working on cardboard. They were asked to make more layers of cardboard for the body so the animals would become a bit more three dimensional. I was surprised how good they were in making same shapes smaller and smaller reaching the 3D idea. As for colouring they were asked only to decorate and leave all the facial details out which was for some a bit hard but as you can see they’ve managed very well.
Beautiful collaged assemblaged animals and other creatures are now let free to admire!! Thinking, observing, drawing, comparing, constructing, cutting, gluing, decorating. Art is good!
